SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Box (NYSE:BOX) today announced new product and platform updates to
transform the way people and businesses work. Before an audience of
thousands of IT leaders at BoxWorks, Box co-founder and CEO Aaron Levie
introduced new ways to work in the cloud with immersive new content
experiences, expanded integrations to support content collaboration, and
a mobile app to connect content in the field to business processes. Box
also introduced two Box Platform offerings – Developer and Enterprise –
to bring the full power of the Box Platform to customers, enabling them
to build transformative experiences for their own customers, partners
and broader ecosystem.
“The last decade of IT has focused on driving innovation and
productivity inside organizations, but cloud and mobile are also
completely redefining how businesses can deliver new services and
experiences to customers and partners,” said Aaron Levie. “Now is the
time for enterprises to build new digital experiences that transform
their business, and at Box, we’re building the platform to power this
transformation.”
Box also announced it has surpassed 40 million registered users and has
more than 50,000 customers, including 52% of the Fortune 500. Leading
organizations including the U.S. Department of Justice, Toyota,
AstraZeneca, Barneys New York, Legendary Pictures, General Electric and
IBM use Box to power enterprise content management and collaboration
globally. Box was also recently named a leader in “The Forrester Wave™:
ECM Business Content Services, Q3 ’15” report where it received the
highest score for its enterprise content management (ECM) strategy, with
a 4.7 on a scale of 5.
New Ways to Work in the Cloud
Three New Types of Content to View and Interact with on Box
Today, Box introduced support for content preview and collaboration of
three new content types in Box – HD video, DICOM images and interactive
3D. The nature of content on the web has transitioned from static text
and images to a more immersive, interactive and dynamic experience for a
number of industries including media & entertainment, healthcare and
retail. With support for these three new content types, Box has made
content a first-class experience on the web, enabling collaboration
that’s secure, streamlined and central to workflows in every industry.
Enhanced Partner Integrations to Work with Content in Leading Apps
The company also announced support for three new, native integrations
with leading partners that simplify workflow and accelerate
collaboration. In addition to its existing integration with Microsoft
Office Online, Box is developing new integrations with some of the most
popular services that customers use to work with files in Box, including
Adobe Document Cloud, Autodesk A360 and DocuSign. Customers can create
new files or open previewed content directly from Box in the solution of
their choice to complete a wide range of tasks like signing contracts,
filling out forms, editing images or even designing 3D graphics. The
integrations improve productivity and simplify workflow by eliminating
the need to download a file from Box, open it in third-party
applications and then upload back into Box.
Box Capture
Box also introduced Box Capture, its first mobile-only app for the
enterprise. Box Capture is a new iOS app that securely and instantly
connects content captured in the field to core business processes. Built
exclusively for iOS, Box Capture unlocks entirely new workflows across
every industry, helping field workers collect photos, videos and
documents and share that content with a distributed network of knowledge
workers using an iPhone or iPad. In healthcare, medical professionals
can use Box Capture to share patient images, videos and documents with
another care provider in a HIPAA-compliant setting. Oil and gas
companies can document the security of a distributed field operation via
Box Capture, immediately triggering remediation workflows on Box if a
potential safety issue is recorded. Retail companies can leverage Box
Capture during retail audits to submit status of inventory and in-store
displays.
Transforming your Business with the Box Platform
Jeetu Patel, chief strategy officer and SVP of Platform at Box,
introduced a new way for customers and partners to build enterprise apps
with the Box Platform. The Box Platform enables a business to power any
application, for any user, without requiring the user to log into a Box
account. Designed for businesses of all sizes and industries, Box
Platform customers and partners can leverage a new user and
authentication model to quickly build and deploy secure applications in
a way that's completely tailored to their business, and transform the
way they interact with their customers.
Box Platform will be available as two plans, Developer and Enterprise.
Developer is a free plan that allows customers and developers to test
and design their app experience. The Enterprise plan is designed for
enterprise customers building apps that are generally available and in
production. Pricing for ISVs building on the Box Platform will be
announced in the coming months.
“The digital enterprise requires a new platform that delivers powerful,
engaging and secure content experiences,” said Jeetu Patel. “The Box
Platform reimagines how we can transform our customers’ business by
creating collaborative applications that are tailored for every industry
and enterprise-ready on day one. We can’t wait to see what our customers
build on the Box Platform.”
In addition to showing customers how they can reimagine work in the
cloud with Box, the company also outlined how companies are transforming
their business with the Box Platform. The Box Platform allows customers
including General Electric, CAA, Schneider Electric, Eli Lilly and FICO
to build engaging, custom content experiences for both their internal
and external audiences. More than 50,000 developers are building
applications on Box and more than 1,600 applications are integrated with
the Box Platform.
