SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In front of an audience of more than 1,500 developers at Box Dev, the
company’s second annual developer conference, Box (NYSE: BOX) today
introduced Box Developer Edition, which includes a new user and
authentication model for building apps on the Box platform. For the
first time, Box Developer Edition provides developers with their own
complete Box instance, allowing them to tap the full power of Box in
their apps and reimagine workflows for any industry. In addition, the
company showcased advanced content services for Box’s preview
technology, and launched breakthrough modular SDKs for building on the
world’s most popular mobile devices.
“The opportunity to build transformative enterprise applications is
greater than ever, because today’s digital enterprises are using
technology as a competitive advantage to create more productive
workforces and more powerful customer experiences,” said Aaron Levie,
co-founder and CEO of Box. “These new platform technologies will make it
easier than ever for developers to unlock the full power of the Box
platform and create new digital experiences that transform the way
people and organizations work.”
The Box platform ecosystem has grown to nearly 50,000 third-party
developers building their applications on Box and making 4.5 billion API

“Today, Box gives developers the opportunity to create meaningful
applications on the enterprise content platform trusted by half of the
Fortune 500. We’ve gone way beyond commodity cloud storage by constantly
investing in new technology to support our more than 45,000 customers
globally, and making those innovations available to developers,” said
Chris Yeh, senior vice president of Product and Platform at Box. “Our
APIs and new Developer Edition fundamentally change how a new generation
of developers will shape the world’s leading digital enterprises.”
Box Developer Edition: A Developer-Owned Box Instance with Full Box
Functionality
A seamless new way to build on the Box platform, Box
Developer Edition is a developer-owned instance of Box with full Box
enterprise functionality that gives the developer complete control over
the user experience. Powered by a new user and authentication model, Box
Developer Edition allows for the creation and provisioning of individual
users associated only with the developer’s application and authenticates
those applications directly to Box, providing users with a seamless
experience. Several leading software companies have committed to
building on Box Developer Edition, including Advent Software, Exitround
and Sensery.
"At Exitround, our focus is connecting technology companies
with strategic M&A partners and investors around the world through our
software, in a way that is seamless for buyers and sellers alike," said
Jacob Mullins, CEO, Exitround. "Building on top of Box's new platform
capabilities will enable us to seamlessly provision new users and manage
our customer's critical business content through Box's enterprise APIs."
Extending the Most Advanced Viewing Experience on the Web
Box highlighted advancements for its world-class preview experience,
including new ecosystem partners and powerful SDKs for PHP, Java, and
.NET, that make content a first class citizen on the web and mobile. The
company is working with leading integration partners including Airtable,
Appcelerator, Autodesk, Brightact, Greenhouse, Highspot, Hightower,
Kapost, Lithium Technologies, Mindflash, PlanGrid, Redbooth, Showpad,
Submittable and Xendo. Box also demoed new advancements to its Preview
technology including 3D preview, medical imaging and watermarking.
“Autodesk is reinventing collaboration with best-in-class tools that
allow anyone to work with 2D and 3D design and engineering files,” said
Scott Reese, vice president of Cloud Platforms at Autodesk. “We look
forward to exploring how the Box View API can complement the experience
our customers have come to expect when using our cloud collaboration
platform, Autodesk A360.”
New Breakthrough Modular SDKs for Building on iOS and Android
The company introduced a new set of mobile
SDKs that make it incredibly easy for developers to build enterprise
apps on Box. The new SDKs introduce lightweight, reusable components for
mobile app development that take advantage of Box’s clean UI and
comprehensive enterprise security features. The core components of the
Content, Preview, Browse and Share mobile SDKs introduce new ways for
developers to quickly build and enable user authentication, preview
permissions, enhanced collaboration and streamlined navigation.
Investing in the Box Platform Ecosystem
Box also announced that top-tier Silicon Valley venture firms, Bessemer
Venture Partners and Emergence Capital, have shared with Box their
intention to each commit up to 20 million dollars to invest
in enterprise software companies that are leveraging the Box
